The Green Register will be featuring “The Waterfalls of Tennessee” over the next three days. These magnificent waterfalls have been saved over the past 10 years by the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation.
Here is our second profile: Virgin Falls
Virgin Falls is one of Tennessee’s premiere scenic wonders and natural attractions. Formed underground its stream emerges from a cave, drops 110 feet, and disappears into another cave at the bottom of the falls. A waterfall with no visible upstream or downstream!
Located on the Cumberland Plateau near Sparta, TN, it is a priority destination in the Corridor that links Fall Creek Falls to Scott’s Gulf to Bledsoe State Forest. Just this month, the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation was able to raise enough monies to help the state of Tennessee purchase the falls for public use.
