Sustainable Cleveland 2019 – Green City on a Blue Lake

In August 2009, Mayor Frank G. Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio convened the first Sustainable Cleveland 2019 Summit to bring together hundreds of people interested in sustainability. The goal: envision a 10-year campaign for “building an economic engine to empower a green city on a blue lake” by the 50th anniversary of the infamous Cuyahoga River fire.

The Cleveland Summit created a decade long schedule of “Celebration Years” to help focus the community on moving a sustainability agenda forward. Here is their lineup:

2011 – Energy Efficiency

2012 – Local Foods

2013 – Renewable Resources and Advanced Energy

2014 – Zero Waste

2015 – Clean Water

2016 – Sustainable Mobility

2017 – Clean Green Spaces

2018 – Vital Neighborhoods

2019 – The Year of People
