Greenovations: BASF – WALLTITE

WALLTITE is an all-in-one Insulator, vapor and air barrier, and drainage plain. This amazing product is a sprayed polyurethane foam that adheres on contact.

Many know that seals around doors and windows are essential to lower energy costs in the home or office. What many people do not think about is that the walls themselves have small pathways for air to escape/enter bringing up the cost of heating or cooling the building.

ENERGY STAR estimates that 25-40% of energy used for heating and cooling is expended due to air leakage.

Many of these crevices can be almost impossible to fill, but with a sprayable foam product like WALLTITE that problem has been solved. Not only is it an air/vapor barrier, but it also functions as a high R-value insulator, augmenting the performance of insulation elsewhere installed.

The spay uses a zero-ozone-depleting blowing agent, and the product contains no volatile organic compounds.

Another added benefit of having a well sealed home or office is that it minimizes the allergens that make their way into the structure improving the overall air quality of the space.

Here are the bullet points provided by BASF:

  • Eliminates uncontrolled air leakage
  • Improves occupant comfort, health and safety
  • Improves indoor environmental quality
  • Improves structural strength
  • Reduces condensation, moisture and mold problems
  • Conforms to any shape
  • Is approved by the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) to meet the mandated air barrier requirements of the Commercial Energy Codes of Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Michigan
  • Is installed only by ABAA approved applicators with third-party quality control inspection
