In 2007 the Energy Independence and Security Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush, establishing new lighting standards that have taken effect over three years. In 2012 the law requires manufacturers to offer bulbs that are at least 27% more energy efficient than traditional 100-watt incandescent bulbs. The law covers 75-watt bulbs in 2013 and 60- and 40-watt bulbs in 2014.
There is a new national coalition called the LUMEN Coalition that was created to educate people about their lighting choices and the benefits of today’s energy efficient bulbs. The group has launched a comprehensive website at http://lumennow.org/.
Everything you ever wanted to know about light bulbs is contained in that one site. Check it out!
