Alabama Power’s Corporate Roof Goes Solar (Interactive Website)

Remember when Alabama Power ran a marketing campaign showing two birds sitting on a wire talking about power rates and electricity power line safety? Well, perhaps they can bring the birds back and have them sitting on solar panels talking about solar power.

A couple of years ago, Alabama Power installed four solar panels, each using a different technology, on the roof of their Corporate Headquarters building in downtown Birmingham. Along with the panels, the company created an educational minute by minute solar demonstration website documenting the amount of power each panel is generating. In partnership with the Electric Power Research Institute, the Alabama Power solar demonstration project will allow the company and the general public to see which photovoltaic (PV) panels work best with Alabama’s weather patterns and climate.

The demonstration is nice. What I’d like to see is the corporate headquarters POWERED by solar panels!!

Bravo to AL Power Credit Union for being a L.E.E.D. certified building!
